Limena is a spot on the west coast of Lesvos, in the Sigri sector. Like other spots in this area, it benefits from the Meltemi that wraps around the island's northwest tip and arrives cross-shore on the WSW-facing beaches. This spot is part of the Sigri sailing area, renowned as one of the best wind/kitesurf destinations in the eastern Aegean thanks to the consistency of the summer Meltemi.
Rideable May to September with the Meltemi. Optimal cross-shore conditions for freeride. Launch from the beach. The Sigri area offers several alternative beaches depending on conditions. Plan for 7-12m² kites. Windsurf and kitesurf centers available in Sigri village.
Open water with chop in Meltemi. The offshore islets provide partial protection. Sandy bottom. In strong wind, chop is significant. Crystal clear and warm water in summer (23-25°C).
Intermediate
Open all year round
Parking accessible from the coastal road in the Sigri area. Dirt parking by the beach. Partially unpaved road.
Strong Meltemi possible (+25 knots) — check forecasts. Significant chop in strong wind. Rocks in places along the coast. No specialized rescue. Ride with company and a waterproof phone.
The Meltemi wraps around northwest Lesvos and arrives from N/NNW on the west coast. On this WSW-facing beach, the wind is cross-shore (from the right). Consistent 15-25 knots June to September. Wind picks up late morning and blows until evening. Very steady with little variation — characteristic of the Meltemi in this sector. Gusts up to 30+ knots possible in midsummer.
