Faneromeni is a spot on the west coast of Lesvos, just north of Sigri. This area is part of the island's most renowned kite/windsurf sector, benefiting from the Meltemi that wraps around Lesvos's northwest tip to arrive cross-shore to side-onshore. The beach offers a wild setting with views of the offshore islets. Wind is consistent and sustained in summer, making this sector one of the best in the eastern Aegean.
Rideable May to September, optimal in July-August. The Meltemi picks up late morning and blows all afternoon. Launch from the beach. Cross-shore conditions are ideal for freeride and freestyle. In strong Meltemi (+20 knots), advanced conditions with chop. Plan for 7-12m² kites depending on season.
Open water with chop in Meltemi conditions. The offshore islets provide slight protection reducing swell. Gradually deepening sandy bottom. In moderate wind, the water is pleasant with manageable chop. In strong wind, chop becomes significant.

Open all year round
Parking along the coastal road between Sigri and Faneromeni. Partly unpaved track. Dirt parking by the beach. Easy access from Sigri (a few kilometers south).
In strong Meltemi (+25 knots), challenging conditions with significant chop. Currents possible along the coast. Rocks in some areas. No lifeguards or specialized rescue. Ride with company. Conditions can change quickly when the Meltemi strengthens.
The Meltemi (northern Etesian wind) wraps around Lesvos's northwest tip and arrives on the west coast from N/NNW direction. On this WSW-facing beach, the wind is cross-shore to side-onshore (from the right when facing the sea). The Meltemi blows consistently 15-25 knots from June to September, with peaks of 30+ knots in July-August. Wind strengthens in the afternoon and can last until sunset. Very steady and consistent, this is one of the most reliable wind patterns in Greece.
