The Lefkada lagoon is THE island's flagship kitesurfing spot, located in the north between the coastal road and the sandbar separating the lagoon from the Ionian Sea. This flat, shallow water body is one of the best spots for learning kitesurfing in Greece.
The NW "Maestro" wind crosses the thin sand strip and arrives on the lagoon as cross-shore to side-onshore. Water is flat, shallow (you can stand in much of it), and the setting is magnificent with mountains as backdrop. Several kite schools are established here.
Several kite schools established around the lagoon offering lessons and rental. The flat, shallow water is ideal for learning – you can touch bottom over large areas. Extended sailing area on the lagoon.
Works from June to September. The spot is organized with zones dedicated to schools and autonomous riders. Wingfoil and windsurf are also possible.
FLAT water – this is the lagoon's great strength. No waves, no significant chop. Shallow water (30cm to 1.5m over large areas). Sand and mud bottom. Warmer water than the open sea. Ideal for freestyle and learning.

Muddy bottom can trap feet – wear appropriate shoes. Some areas are very shallow with bottom contact risk during maneuvers. Possible turbulence at the lagoon edge near the sandbar.
The lagoon is a sensitive natural area – respect the environment. Jellyfish possible late season. Intense sun – protection essential.
The NW "Maestro" wind crosses the coastal sandbar and reaches the lagoon. The passage over the sand can create slight turbulence at the lagoon edge but wind stabilizes quickly. Typical strength 12-20 knots in summer.
Thermal reinforces wind in the afternoon. Good reliability from June to September. Mornings are often calm – use this window for first steps. Wind is generally softer than on the exposed west coast.
