Agios Ioannis is a spectacular beach on Lefkada's west coast, known for its white cliffs and turquoise water. Facing the open Ionian Sea, it's a kitesurf and surf spot exposed to the NW "Maestro" wind and western swell.
The setting is breathtaking – steep cliffs, crystal clear water, white sand – but conditions are demanding. NW/W wind arrives onshore with real waves, making this a spot for advanced riders who can handle waves and current.
Wave spot – mainly for wave-riding, surf and strapless. No kite school on site. Tricky launching in waves and shorebreak. Sailing space towards open water.
Works from June to September with the Maestro. Best wave conditions are in autumn and winter but with less reliable wind.
Waves formed by western Ionian Sea swell. Powerful shore break on big swell days. Rip current possible. Sandy bottom. Crystal turquoise water – the most beautiful colors in Greece.
Advanced
Open all year round
Parking at the cliff top with beach access via a steep path (or stairs). Access can be difficult with kite equipment. A few beach bars in season. Access road from Lefkada town.
Powerful waves and shore break – injury risk at launch/landing. Dangerous rip current. Cliffs on each side limiting emergency exits. Difficult access with equipment.
No permanent supervision. Sometimes rocky bottom at the ends. High tourist traffic – respect swimmers.
The "Maestro" wind (NW) is the dominant summer wind in the Ionians. On this exposed west coast, it arrives directly onshore to side-onshore, typically 12-22 knots. Possible thermal reinforcement in the afternoon, reaching 20-25 knots.
On big NW days, the combination of strong wind + swell creates spectacular but demanding wave-riding conditions. Wind can shift westward on some days.
