Kohilari is a kitesurfing spot on the southwest coast of Kos, right next to Kefalos. This small cove offers conditions similar to Kefalos but in a more intimate setting. The golden sand beach is bordered by hills that partially channel the Meltemi. The spot is popular with intermediate riders looking for a less crowded alternative to Kefalos main bay. Shallow water near shore allows a comfortable launch.
Kohilari works with the Meltemi wrapping around the island from the west, arriving cross-shore NW/W. The cove offers a more restricted riding area than Kefalos but sufficient for sailing. The shallow zone near shore suits learning. Further out, the water opens up with chop and small waves. The spot is less crowded than Kefalos, offering more space per rider. Works from June to September.
Turquoise Aegean Sea water, 22-26°C in summer. 2mm shorty or lycra sufficient in peak season. Sandy bottom with some scattered rocks. Shallow water for the first meters, then gradual depth. Small chop to moderate waves when the Meltemi is established. Moderate current along the coast.

Open all year round
Small roadside parking near Kohilari beach. Access from the coastal road connecting Kefalos to the beaches. Limited spaces — in high season, you may need to park further away and walk. Alternative: park at Kefalos parking and walk along the coast.
Rocks on the sides of the cove to avoid during maneuvers. Meltemi can quickly build to 25-30 knots. More limited riding space than Kefalos — watch for other riders. Current along the coast. Strong summer sun exposure — sun protection essential.
Like neighboring Kefalos, Kohilari receives the Meltemi wrapping around the western tip of Kos. Wind arrives cross-shore from the NW/W on this southwest-facing coast. Surrounding hills create a slight funneling effect that can locally strengthen the wind. Typical strength of 15-25 knots in summer, with gusts up to 30+ knots in strong Meltemi. Wind follows the classic pattern: building toward noon, peaking in afternoon, dropping in evening. Main season from June to September.
