Secret Beach is a spot on the west coast of the southern tip of Karpathos, offering an interesting alternative to the east coast spots (Devils Bay, Gun Bay). Facing west, this beach receives the Meltemi as side-onshore, a much safer direction than the east coast. Conditions remain powerful thanks to the exceptional strength of the Meltemi in Karpathos, but the return to shore is significantly easier.
West-facing beach receiving the Meltemi as side-onshore. Wind pushes towards the coast, making conditions safer. Waves possible but generally more moderate than on the east coast. Good choice in very strong Meltemi or for advanced riders who prefer a side-onshore direction.
Warm Aegean Sea in summer (23-26°C). Moderate wind waves. Sandy to rocky bottom. No wetsuit needed in summer.
Advanced
Open all year round
Access from Afiartis via track towards the west coast. Limited parking on natural ground. The spot is less busy than the east coast.
Meltemi remains very powerful even on the west side (25-35+ knots). Rocks possible near the shore. Violent gusts. Isolated spot with limited access. Despite the safer direction, conditions remain advanced due to the sheer power of the wind.
The N to NNW Meltemi arrives here as side-onshore on this west coast, a much safer direction than on the eastern spots. Wind pushes towards the coast rather than out to sea. Similar strength to other spots in the area (25-35+ knots) but safer sailing conditions thanks to the direction. Season: June to September.
