Gun Bay is one of the iconic spots of the Afiartis area in Karpathos, located on the east coast between Devils Bay to the north and Chicken Bay to the south. This bay offers powerful Meltemi conditions with waves and side-offshore wind, in a spectacular setting of arid cliffs typical of the Dodecanese. Very popular with advanced kiters and windsurfers for its muscular but slightly more sheltered conditions than Devils Bay.
East-facing spot working with the N/NNW Meltemi as side-offshore. Wind waves of 1-2.5m. The bay offers slightly more protection than Devils Bay while maintaining powerful conditions. Sailing centre and kite schools in the Afiartis area.

Aegean Sea — warm water in summer (23-26°C). Wind waves of 1-2.5m. Sandy bottom with some rocks. No wetsuit needed in summer.
Access from Afiartis via track. Parking on natural ground. Beach access on foot.
The NNW to N Meltemi funnels here with the same power as the rest of southern Karpathos. Typical strength 25-35 knots, gusts 40+. Side-offshore direction on this east coast. Slightly more protected than Devils Bay thanks to the local topography. Season: June to September.
Very powerful side-offshore wind pushing out to sea. Significant waves. Violent gusts possible. Rocks on the sides of the bay. Risk of drifting out to sea. Spot reserved for advanced riders minimum. Use a smaller kite than usual.
