Daphnila is a spot on Corfu's east coast, in the strait between the island and the Greek mainland. This sheltered beach enjoys calm conditions, protected from the dominant NW winds by the island's mass. The main wind here comes from the channel between Corfu and Albania/mainland, channeled from the north. The water is generally flat and shallow, ideal for beginners.
Rideable mainly from June to September when the channel wind is most consistent. Launch from the beach. The water is flat and sheltered, perfect for learning and freestyle. Wind is generally lighter than on the west coast, plan for larger kites (12-14m²).
Open all year round
Beginner
Flat to slightly choppy water in the channel. Sandy and gradually deepening bottom. Warm water in summer (24-26°C). The channel offers an elongated north-south riding area. Few waves thanks to mainland protection.
Parking in the Daphnila hotel area. Beach access from the coastal roads. In high season, parking can be limited near the hotels.
Corfu's east coast is sheltered from the Maestro (NW) by the island itself. The wind here is mainly a N/NNE channel wind, funneled between Corfu and the mainland/Albania. This channel wind can reach 12-18 knots in fair summer weather. The strait creates a moderate Venturi effect that accelerates the northerly flow. In NE weather wind conditions, the spot can be windy with chop in the channel.
Significant maritime traffic in the channel: ferries, cruise ships, shuttles. Stay clear of main shipping lanes. Currents possible in the strait in strong wind. Watch out for jet skis and tourist boats in summer.
