Acharavi is a seaside resort on Corfu's north coast, offering a long sand and pebble beach facing north. The spot benefits from the dominant Maestro wind (NW) which blows side-onshore to onshore on this coast. In summer, the Maestro typically picks up in the afternoon and can reach 15-20 knots. The beach is wide with easy water access, but conditions can get choppy in stronger winds.
Rideable from May to September with the Maestro wind. Best conditions in July-August when the wind is most consistent. Launch directly from the sandy beach. Wind picks up around 1-2 PM and peaks around 4-5 PM. Extended riding area along the north coast.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Open water facing north with chop in Maestro conditions. Gradually deepening sandy bottom. In moderate wind (12-18 knots), conditions are pleasant with small waves. In strong wind (+20 knots), chop can become significant. Watch out for leisure boats in summer.
Parking available along the coastal road in Acharavi. In summer, parking can be limited in the village center. Beach access on foot from the parking areas.
The dominant wind is the Maestro (NW/NNW), the characteristic summer wind of the Ionian islands. It typically picks up in the early afternoon and blows until sunset. On the north coast, it arrives onshore to side-onshore (from the left when facing the sea). Local thermal breezes can reinforce the Maestro in the afternoon. In SE wind (Sirocco) conditions, the wind is offshore and not recommended.
Watch out for tourist boats and ferries along the north coast. Significant maritime traffic in summer. Rocks present at certain points along the coastline. In strong NW wind, chop can be challenging for beginners. Avoid riding in SE wind (offshore).
