The Zwergerlinsel (Zwergern) is a peninsula in the southwest part of the Walchensee — Germany's deepest alpine lake (802 m altitude, exceptional mountain setting between Herzogstand and Jochberg). Popular kite/foil spot for the Munich community, accessible only on foot from the campsite (2 km) — an advantage reserved for kiters (windsurfers avoid this walk). Large lawn for rigging, gently sloping shingle beach.
Local thermal wind, NE direction, active from noon to about 5pm. In autumn, the wind sometimes doesn't push as far as Zwergern — prefer Sachenbach (NE of the lake) then. Natural setting ranked among the most beautiful spots in Germany.
From Munich: A95, exit Murnau/Kochel, then B11 towards Walchensee. Follow signs for Camping Walchensee. Park at the campsite (paid parking). 2 km on foot (bring a bike, rollerblades or kite trolley). Thermal wind: wait for conditions (thermal visible as a band of chop in the middle of the lake). Windsurfing Center Walchensee at "La Wiese" — lessons and rental.

Parking at Camping Walchensee (paid). 2 km walk to the spot — bring a bike or trolley. No direct car access.
Local thermal wind exclusively: NE direction, generated by the temperature difference between the mountain flanks (Herzogstand/Jochberg) and the cold lake. Ideal conditions: clear/cold night + sunny day + NE base flow. Thermal active 11am-5pm, starts in the north and moves south — at Zwergern (southwest), the wind lasts longer than in the north (Urfeld). Strongest wind between the Galerie and the Schweinebucht.
Very cold water (mountain lake at 802 m altitude). Rocky and stony bottom at the edges — surf shoes mandatory. Thermal wind very gusty and difficult to predict. Narrow launch areas on shingle. Sailboats present on the lake. In fog (rare but possible in autumn), zero visibility — do not go out. Sail far enough from shore to avoid downwind effects towards the banks.
