Herrschinger Kreuz is the main kite spot on the Ammersee, a lake located 40 km west of Munich. Active spot mainly from October to March, with prevailing westerly winds brought by Atlantic depressions. Shingle beach, flat to choppy water with waves possible in strong wind. The Ammersee is one of the windiest bodies of water in Bavaria and attracts the Munich kite community whenever Foehn or a depression sets in.
Main season: October-March (strong westerly winds). In summer, prefer Walchensee (thermal) or Starnberger See.
Access from Herrsching, follow the lake southwards. Shingle beach — surf shoes recommended. Sail only towards open water to stay safe. Waterstart not recommended for beginners in strong wind.

Prevailing westerly winds from depressions — main season Oct.-March. Strong and gusty wind possible. Foehn can also bring spectacular but dangerous conditions. In summer, easterly wind is offshore from this spot — go to Utting (west shore) instead.
Shallow water near the shingle beach, then deep quickly — sail upwind towards open water to avoid downwind towards the rocky shore. W to SW winds can be very strong (depressions) and generate dangerous waves. Never exceed your limits — spot reserved for experienced riders in strong wind. In summer, many swimmers on neighbouring beaches.
