Les Conches on the Ile d'Yeu is a kitesurf spot on the wild south coast of the island, fully exposed to the Atlantic. Southwest to northwest onshore winds with ocean swell. One of the most spectacular spots in the Pays de la Loire — cliffs, small sandy coves and wild scenery. Advanced level due to isolation, rocks and exposed conditions. Access by ferry from Fromentine only — bike recommended on the island.
Ferry from Fromentine to Port-Joinville, then bicycle to Les Conches (south coast, approx 6km). Choose your launch beach based on wind direction and swell. Self-organised spot — assess conditions thoroughly before launching. Never ride alone on this isolated coast. Rescue is very slow due to island access. Best season: May to October, low to mid-tide for widest beaches.
Atlantic exposed coast with swell 0.5 to 2m+ in westerly conditions. Rocky coastline with small sandy coves — very careful selection of launch zones required. No flat water — everything is wave/swell riding. Sandy and rocky bottom depending on cove. Strong tidal currents around the island.
Advanced
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. Advanced riders only. Ferry from Fromentine year-round. Live weather station available. No services on the south coast — bring everything you need.
Very isolated island — ferry access only. No kite rescue infrastructure. Rocky coastline on the wild south coast. Strong tidal currents around the island.
Southwest to northwest winds give full Atlantic exposure with a very long ocean fetch. The island's exposed position amplifies wind — can be significantly stronger than mainland coast. The wild south coast gets the most wind and swell. North coast is more sheltered. Summer thermal northwest wind gives lighter but consistent sessions.
