Spot de Keremma Main Beach - Tréflez

Keremma Main Beach - Tréflez

Keremma Main Beach - Tréflez

Overview

Keremma is THE reference spot of the north Finistère coast — unmissable, with exceptional beauty. Wide white sand beach with lagoon colours, sheltered from waves by offshore rocky islets. Ideal for freeride, freestyle, learning and foiling. No breaking waves on the main beach.

Managed by the FKA (Finistère Kite Association). FFVL labelled. AvelWest school teaches here regularly.

The full Keremma zone stretches 5km of coastline, from Kerurus (west) to the Baie du Kernic (east), offering different configurations depending on wind and tide.

Local association recommendations

FKA (Finistère Kite Association) — manages the spot, local information. FFVL labelled. AvelWest (avel-west.com) teaches here. École Kitesurf Bretagne (ecolekitesurfbretagne.com) — itinerant school across north Finistère including Keremma.

Spot functioning

From Plouescat, follow signs for Keremma / Maison des Dunes / Camping d'Odé Vraz. Multiple access points and car parks within 200m of the beach. Warning: the Odé Vraz car park floods at high tide above coefficient 80 — check tide times before parking.

Works at all tides with a clear preference for low tide and NE wind — exceptional flat water, shallow over a large distance. At mid rising tide: ideal for beginners (standing depth almost everywhere). At high tide: more pronounced shorebreak, reduced space.

At low tide, land kite (char à voile), speedsails and buggies use the beach — coordinate accordingly.

On the water

Always flat water on the main beach — offshore rocky islets absorb swell. At low tide: exceptional flat water, shallow over a large distance, rocks visible and easily spotted. At high tide: shorebreak. Some rocks in the bay — scout at low tide before riding. Strong current at the Kernic bay mouth (east side) — avoid approaching, especially at tide changes.

Parking

Multiple car parks within 200m. Most used: Odé Vraz campsite car park. Floods above coefficient 80 — check before parking. Access from Tréflez or Plouescat following signs for Keremma / Maison des Dunes.

Hazards

Strong current at the Kernic bay mouth (east side) — area to avoid, especially at tide changes. Goulven ornithological reserve (west side): navigation strictly forbidden — do not approach (locals and birds will make this clear). Odé Vraz car park floods above coefficient 80. At low tide: share the beach with land kite, speedsail and buggies.

Wind specificities

Wind orientations (source: Glisse29, AvelWest) :

  • W (side port tack): excellent — regular wind, long runs
  • NW (side-onshore port): very good — classic north Finistère
  • NE (side starboard): ideal — spring thermal, perfect flat water. Local preference by NE at low tide.
  • N (onshore): works, choppier sea state
  • SW/SSW: works, stable Atlantic depression wind

NE thermal is subtle in summer (8-15kt), mainly present in spring — memorable sessions. Depression winds more regular in autumn/winter/spring (200+ navigable days/year in north Finistère).

Right side of spot (Kernic entrance): sandbars create small waves in W/NW swell — wave fallback spot when Dossen is too big.
