Overview

Maldormir — western end of the Étang de Thau, near Marseillan. Historically the second major kite access to the lagoon (after Pont-Levis), the spot has been heavily restricted due to conflicts with local residents, environmental protection, and parking issues.

Same legendary lagoon — flat water, on foot everywhere, 12 km of sandbanks, spectacular light. Camikas local association has been working since 2018 to create an official kite zone at Marseillan.

Status uncertain: verify current access conditions before riding. Access may be restricted or prohibited depending on municipal decrees.

Very limited parking at Chemin du Beau Rivage, Marseillan. Police actively issue fines for obstructive parking. Few spaces available.

Irregular wind: Tramontane can be very strong and gusty here.

Wind specificities

Tramontane (NW): main wind, often very strong and gusty at Maldormir specifically.

Mistral (N/NE): also works. Same lagoon as Pont-Levis.

Reachable via a 12 km downwind from Pont-Levis along the sandbanks (~1h round trip).
