Agon-Coutainville is a wide, open kitesurf spot on the west coast of the Cotentin, with a vast sandy beach bordered by dunes and little construction. The sea retreats several kilometers at low tide, offering a shallow, very reassuring environment for beginners — ideal for learning.
A varied spot depending on the tide: flat water at low tide (small waves with westerly wind), larger waves forming at high tide. Moderate south-to-north current. The south end of the beach, near the sailing school, is preferred for its absence of rocks and guaranteed space even at spring tides.
Multiple kitesurf schools operate here (Pôle Kitesurf Normandie, Eden Kite). Quiet, authentically Norman atmosphere.
Pôle Kitesurf Normandie — kitesurf school operating at Agon-Coutainville (near sailing school), Anneville-sur-Mer, Gouville-sur-Mer and Blainville-sur-Mer. kite-normandie.fr
Eden Kite — itinerant kitesurf school for adults and children (from 12 years, 45kg min) in the Manche.
Off-season, the entire 3-4 km coastline is available. In peak season, swimming zones must be respected — the south end near the sailing school is recommended. At high tide with coefficient >65-70, the beach disappears along the town centre; always launch near the sailing school which always has space. South of the sailing school, the coast is free of rocks.

Open all year round
At high tide with coefficient above 65-70, the beach disappears along the town centre — the area near the sailing school (south end) always retains some beach. Rows of rocks from the centre to the sailing school divide the coast into separate sections at high tide — stay south of the sailing school to avoid them. In peak season, do not cross the swimming zones (numerous bathers in areas outside marked zones). Moderate current from south to north.
Works from south to north (SW to N). Best orientation is northwest: the Agon point creates a natural barrier against waves, allowing practice on an almost flat sea. Westerly: small swell and clapot. Southerly winds: offshore — possible to ride but risky for less experienced riders, current pushes north.
