Cherrueix is one of the most famous kitesurf and land sailing spots in France, on the south shore of the Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel. The immense beach — up to 3km wide at low tide — is the playground for both kitesurfers and char à voile (land yachts) in west and northwest wind. The tidal range here is among the largest in Europe. Exceptional flat water and hard sand conditions. The Mont-Saint-Michel appears on the horizon as a backdrop to every session.
Access from Cherrueix village via the coastal road. Large beach car parks. Sessions only viable at low to mid-tide — the beach disappears at high tide. Check tide tables before every session — the tide returns very fast. Land yachts (chars à voile) share the beach — give way and maintain safe distance. The beach is very exposed — wind can be much stronger than forecast.
Hard flat sand at low tide — exceptional conditions for both kitesurf and land kite. The beach is up to 3km wide at spring low tides. Completely dry between mid and low tide — foiling on sand ripples is possible. At mid-tide, a thin layer of water gives hydrofoil conditions. The tidal return is extremely fast in channels — always keep an eye on the tide. No swell inside the bay.

The Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel has one of the largest tidal ranges in Europe — the sea retreats up to 15km at spring tides. NEVER go out on foot on the flats — the tide returns extremely fast (up to 1m/min in channels). For kitesurf: strong tidal currents, sand ripples, occasional quicksand areas. Check tide tables before every session. Char à voile (land yachts) share the same beach — collision risk at speed.
West and northwest are the primary windows — giving cross-shore conditions on this south-facing bay shoreline. Northeast also works well — cross-onshore from the east. The bay orientation creates a natural wind funnel, often significantly amplifying Atlantic winds. Very consistent conditions. The wide exposed bay means wind forecasts often underestimate actual conditions on the beach.
