Neue Donau (New Danube) is an artificial arm of the Danube in Vienna, created as flood protection. This 21 km long, straight body of water is one of Europe's few urban kitesurf spots. The prevailing winds are from the north-west and south-east, channeled along the Danube arm. The water body is narrow, requiring good technical skill. The water is fresh and the bottom is regular. The spot is easily accessible by Vienna's public transport.
