Whyalla

Overview

Whyalla is a kitesurf spot located in the Spencer Gulf in South Australia. It is the state's third-largest city, known for its steel industry and its famous giant cuttlefish aggregations. The spot offers sailing conditions in the sheltered waters of the gulf. The prevailing wind comes from the south to southwest in summer. The Spencer Gulf waters are relatively calm and shallow, with little swell. The bottom is sandy to muddy. Tides can be significant in the gulf and affect conditions. The best season is from November to March. The spot is suited to beginners and intermediates. Whyalla has all the amenities of a regional city: parking, shops, accommodation, restaurants.
