Lancelin Island is the main spot of the Lancelin lagoon, one of the premier kitesurfing destinations in Western Australia and a world-renowned location. The lagoon sheltered by the island offers exceptional flat water conditions in crystal-clear turquoise and shallow water, perfectly suited for both beginners and experienced freestylers. The "Fremantle Doctor", the famous thermal sea breeze from the south/southwest, blows with remarkable consistency from November to March, typically between 20 and 30 knots. The wind is generally offshore in the morning then turns cross-onshore by midday. The Lancelin lagoon is the most popular spot in the area thanks to its flat surface and shallow turquoise waters. Lancelin is located about 1.5 hours north of Perth via Indian Ocean Drive, a magnificent scenic road. The village has a campsite, a few shops, a pub and restaurants. Several kite schools and equipment rental outlets are available. The huge white sand dunes nearby offer sandboarding and quad biking opportunities. In addition to the lagoon, Lancelin offers three other spots: Back Beach for flat water when the swell is low, and wave spots further offshore. The neighbouring spots of Ledge Point and Cervantes are also worth a visit. Beware of sea urchins in some areas and the current at low tide.
