Elliston is a kitesurf spot located on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. This small coastal town is known as the "surf capital of the west coast" and offers exceptional wave conditions exposed to the powerful Southern Ocean swell. The prevailing wind comes from the southwest to west, blowing onshore to cross-onshore on this exposed section of coast. Waves can be very powerful with direct Southern Ocean swell. The bottom is a mix of sand and reef depending on the section of the bay. Elliston is a spot for advanced and expert riders only, due to the wave power, isolation and lack of rescue services. The area is known for the presence of great white sharks. It is imperative to take all necessary precautions. The best wind season is summer (November to March).
