Broome

Overview

Broome is an iconic kitesurf spot located in the Kimberley region, in northwest Western Australia. This tropical town is famous for Cable Beach, a 22-kilometre white sand beach bordered by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Broome is one of the most spectacular kitesurf destinations in Australia, offering exceptional wind conditions during the dry season. The prevailing winds follow a marked seasonal pattern: during the dry season (April to October), the southeast trade winds blow consistently and regularly, offering ideal conditions for kitesurfing. During the wet season (November to March), winds shift to the northwest with tropical storms. The best kite season is from May to September, with 15-25 knot winds almost daily. Tides are among the largest in Australia (up to 10 metres), radically transforming the landscape. Broome has numerous accommodations, restaurants and tourist services. Parking is available along Cable Beach. Watch out for saltwater crocodiles in nearby estuaries and box jellyfish during the wet season. The extreme tides require careful session planning.
