El Yaque is the most famous kitesurf spot in Venezuela and one of the most renowned in the world. Located on the southern coast of Margarita Island, in the state of Nueva Esparta, this spot benefits from the northeast trade winds that blow consistently almost year-round. The wind blows sideshore from the left (east), averaging 15 to 30 knots. The best season runs from February to June, with nearly daily winds. The afternoon offers the best conditions, peaking around 3 PM. The water is choppy near the beach, with flatter areas further out. El Yaque hosts many schools and international competitions. Water temperature ranges from 21 to 27°C. The spot is suitable for intermediate to expert riders, as the wind can be gusty near the beach.
