Chicama is world-famous for having the longest left-hand wave in the world, located in the La Libertad region of Peru. The spot is primarily a world-class surfing destination. For kitesurfing, conditions are challenging: the south wind blows offshore relative to the main wave, with many gusts and wind shadow areas caused by cliffs blocking the wind. Intensity varies between 15 and 25 knots in the afternoon from May to December. The spot is reserved for expert riders. Kitesurfing is rarely practiced here due to irregular wind conditions. The nearby spot of Pacasmayo is preferable for kitesurfing.
