Nimpkish Lake is a large lake located in northern Vancouver Island, near the town of Woss. This alpine lake surrounded by mountains and forest is oriented north-south, channelling winds along the lake axis. Remote and wild spot, very uncrowded. NW winds are accelerated by the funnelling effect of surrounding mountains.
Flat to choppy water depending on wind strength. Fresh water. Several kilometre fetch along the north-south lake axis. Variable bottom: sand, pebbles and submerged wood. Cold water even in summer (mountain lake). No tides.
