Overview

Cook Street, also known as Dallas Road, is the most accessible kitesurf spot in Victoria, capital of British Columbia. Located along the Dallas Road waterfront, the spot faces south toward the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains (Washington State). SW to SE winds blow regularly, accelerated by the Venturi effect of the strait.

Spot functioning

On the water

Chop to small waves in the Juan de Fuca Strait. Rocky and pebbly bottom. Good fetch from the south with the strait open toward the Pacific. Tidal currents possible in the strait. Conditions can become rough quickly in strong winds.

Hazards

Rocky bottom — watch fins and falls. Tidal currents in the Juan de Fuca Strait. Marine traffic (ferries, cargo ships, fishing boats). Floating logs. Cold water (full wetsuit required). Busy waterfront promenade — watch for pedestrians when launching.
