Sylvan Lake is a very popular resort lake in central Alberta, between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House, at 937 m altitude. It's one of the most frequented recreational lakes in the province.
The lake stretches about 8 km east to west, with a width of 1 to 2 km. West and southwest winds from the Rocky Mountain foothills offer good fetch along the lake. Caution: very busy lake in summer with swimmers and boats. Season from June to September.
Clear and clean fresh water. Pleasant summer temperature (19-23°C). Sandy to muddy bottom. The E-W oriented lake channels dominant west winds. Moderate chop. Average depth (max ~18 m). Developed beaches on the south shore.

VERY BUSY LAKE — intense boat traffic (motorboats, jet skis, paddleboards). Swimming areas to absolutely respect. Strict municipal regulations — check authorized zones for kitesurfing. Summer thunderstorms. Possible conflict with other users.
