St. Lawrence estuary with significant tides (3-5m range). Vast sandy and muddy tidal flats at low tide — check schedules. Brackish to salt water, cold (10-14°C in summer), 4/3 wetsuit minimum. NE wind (nordet) creates short chop with good fetch. SW wind (suroît) is offshore from the south shore. Significant tidal currents.
Significant tides exposing vast tidal flats — risk of getting stuck in mud. Strong tidal currents. Cold water with hypothermia risk. Commercial shipping on the channel. Fog can roll in quickly on the estuary. Don't venture too far from shore — current can prevent return.
