Point Michaud

Point Michaud

Overview

Point Michaud is a kitesurfing and surfing spot located on Cape Breton Island, in Nova Scotia. This exceptional provincial beach stretches over 3 kilometres of fine sand, bordered by grass-covered dunes and cranberry bogs. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in eastern Canada and a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. The spot is exposed to the Atlantic Ocean and receives regular swell, creating interesting surf and wave kitesurfing conditions. North-northeasterly winds are the most favourable for kitesurfing, but southwesterly and westerly winds also work. Atlantic tides influence the body of water and wave size. The beach offers basic facilities: boardwalk, picnic tables, changing rooms, and toilets. Lifeguard supervision is provided in July and August. Richmond County even organises an annual "Surf Classic" at Point Michaud. The water is cold (full wetsuit recommended). The kitesurfing season runs from June to October, with the best swell conditions in spring and September. This spot is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders due to waves and ocean conditions. It is a must-visit destination for kitesurfers who enjoy wave riding on the Atlantic coast.
