Pigeon Lake is a large lake in central Alberta, between Edmonton and Red Deer, at 849 m altitude. It's one of the province's major resort lakes, very busy in summer.
The lake is about 12 km long by 5 km wide, offering generous fetch in all directions. West and northwest winds are the most frequent and productive. The lake is surrounded by cottage communities and resort villages. Season from June to September.
Good quality fresh water. Temperature of 19-23°C in summer. Sandy to muddy bottom. Large lake offering significant fetch and well-formed chop in sustained winds. Average depth (~10 m). Good water body for progression and freestyle.

Very busy resort lake — heavy boat traffic (motorboats, jet skis). Marked swimming areas to respect. Sudden prairie thunderstorms. Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) possible in late summer. Check local regulations for kiting.
