Spot de Oliphant

Oliphant

Oliphant

Overview

Oliphant is a small village on the Bruce Peninsula on the east shore of Lake Huron. It's one of Ontario's most popular kitesurf spots, known for its extremely shallow water extending for a very long distance — you can walk hundreds of metres into the water. Sand and limestone gravel bottom. The shallow flat water makes it ideal for freestyle and learning.

On the water

Lake Huron fresh water. Very flat and very shallow — knee-deep water extends for hundreds of metres. Sand and limestone bottom. Fetch limited by the shoals. Warm water in summer thanks to shallow depth (20-24°C). Lagoon conditions. Ideal for flat water and freestyle.

Hazards

Hard limestone bottom in places — watch your falls. Submerged rocks and stones. Kitesurfing is very popular here — crowded spot on windy days. Some zones may be restricted. Fins can touch bottom. Sudden thunderstorms.
