Pointe des ChĂŞnes is on the north shore of Lake Superior, near Sault Ste. Marie. Lake Superior is the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area. The spot faces northwest toward the lake's immensity. Conditions can be oceanic with significant waves. Wild and spectacular Canadian Shield landscape.

Lake Superior fresh water — cold year-round (8-16°C even in summer). Flat to very rough. Sand and rock bottom. Virtually unlimited fetch (lake is 560 km long). 2m+ waves frequent in strong wind. Conditions comparable to the sea.
