Overview

Sandbanks Provincial Park is one of Ontario's most popular provincial parks, located in Prince Edward County on Lake Ontario. The park is famous for its massive sand dunes — the largest baymouth barrier dunes in the world. The spot faces southwest toward Lake Ontario with excellent fetch. Popular summer destination, camping reservations needed months in advance.

Lake Ontario fresh water. Flat to choppy. Fine sandy bottom. Excellent fetch from the SW across Lake Ontario. Shallow water for a long distance — ideal for touching down. Warm water in summer (20-24°C, among the warmest on Lake Ontario). Waves possible in strong SW wind.

Very busy provincial park in summer — strict swimming zones. Kitesurfing may be restricted to certain park areas — check regulations. Coastal currents possible. Paid entry and limited parking on summer weekends.
