Port Weller is in St. Catharines, at the northern entrance of the Welland Canal on Lake Ontario. The spot faces north toward the lake with excellent fetch. It's one of the windiest spots in the Niagara region thanks to wind acceleration between the two shores of the lake. NW to NE winds cross the lake over 50+ km.
Lake Ontario fresh water. Flat to choppy with good chop in sustained wind. Sandy bottom. Excellent fetch from the north (50+ km). Warm water in summer (18-22°C). Waves possible in strong wind.

Heavy marine traffic — entrance to the Welland Canal (cargo ships, bulk carriers). NEVER ride in the canal channel. Jetties and breakwaters at the port entrance. Currents near the canal. St. Lawrence Seaway control zone.
