Elbow is a spot on Lake Diefenbaker, Saskatchewan's largest reservoir, created by the Gardiner Dam on the South Saskatchewan River. The lake stretches 225 km and offers considerable fetch in a prairie and hills landscape. The town of Elbow, at the lake's east end, is the main access point for kitesurfing. Lake Diefenbaker is THE reference spot in Saskatchewan, with its clear waters, sandy beaches and regular west and northwest winds.
225 km long reservoir with considerable fetch in west winds. Clear, deep water (reservoir). Sandy bottom near beaches, rocky elsewhere. Moderate to strong chop depending on wind. Cool water (15-20°C in summer). Varied conditions depending on lake position — flat water in bays to waves in open sections.

Very long lake — watch for drift in strong wind. Cold water that can cause hypothermia. Violent and sudden prairie thunderstorms. Cliffs and steep banks in some sections. Boat traffic in summer. Remote from emergency services in some lake areas.
