Aylmer Beach is a kitesurfing spot in Gatineau, on the shores of Lac Deschênes, a widening of the Ottawa River. This urban spot is the main kitesurfing site in the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau).
Lac Deschênes stretches approximately 15 km long and 2-3 km wide, offering excellent fetch with south to northwest winds. Aylmer Beach offers easy access with parking and direct launch from the sand. Active kite community. Season from May to October.

Fresh water from the Ottawa River. Summer temperature of 20-24°C. Sandy bottom at the beach, muddy further out. Moderate to sustained chop in strong winds. The east-west oriented lake channels dominant winds well. Progressive depth from the beach. Marked swimming area to avoid.
Very busy swimming area in summer — respect markers. Motorboats and sailboats on Lac Deschênes. Possible current at the junction with the main Ottawa River channel. Blue-green algae possible in late summer. Frequent summer thunderstorms in the Ottawa Valley.
