The Lagune of the Magdalen Islands is THE iconic kitesurfing spot in Quebec and one of Canada's best flat water spots. This vast shallow lagoon between Havre-aux-Maisons and Cap-aux-Meules offers flat, warm water protected by sand dunes.
Standing depth for hundreds of meters — ideal conditions for beginners and freestyle. Wind is omnipresent on the archipelago, blowing from all directions thanks to the flat island terrain. Turquoise water, fine sand bottom. The Madelinots host an active kite community all summer.
Open all year round
Beginner
Shallow flat lagoon — standing depth everywhere. Turquoise warm water for the Gulf of St. Lawrence (17-21°C in summer). Fine sand bottom with no obstacles. Almost no chop — perfect flat water conditions. Low tide (~0.5-1 m) but affects depth on the lagoon.
At low tide, some lagoon areas dry out — check tide times. Possible currents in passes between lagoon and sea. Dunes are fragile — do not walk on them (environmental protection). Wind can be very strong and constant — adapt kite size.
