Overview

Bear Creek is on the west shore of Harrison Lake, a massive mountain lake northeast of Vancouver. Harrison Lake is 60 km long, oriented N-S, and fed by glaciers from the Coast Mountains. Wind is channelled along the lake axis, creating powerful conditions. Wild and remote spot, accessible only by boat or forestry road.

Spot functioning

On the water

Glacial fresh water — very cold even in summer (10-16°C). Flat to choppy water with significant chop in strong wind. Excellent fetch along the N-S lake axis. Pebble and rock bottom. Significant depth. The lake can become very rough quickly.

Hazards

Very remote spot — no quick rescue access. Very cold glacial water (full wetsuit required). Lake can become dangerous quickly as wind picks up. Floating logs. Bears in the area. No cell coverage. Forestry road access — check conditions.
