Tissa Beach is a vast, pristine sandy beach lined with dunes, located just north of the famous wave spot of Moulay Bouzerktoun, 25 km north of Essaouira on the coastal road to Safi. Where Moulay is a rocky expert-only wave spot, Tissa offers an entirely different playground: a huge expanse of sand with no rocks or obstacles, suitable for all levels.
The spot offers two distinct riding zones. On the ocean side, a long sandy beach with Atlantic waves for kitesurfing and wingfoil wave riding. More interestingly, a flat water zone forms behind sandbars, offering rare flat conditions in the Essaouira region — a real asset for beginners and freestyle riders.
Wind blows with the same consistency as across the entire Essaouira coast: NE trade winds dominate from April to October, with thermal reinforcement in the afternoon. The beach is very exposed and open, so wind arrives unobstructed. Windgate Kitecenter operates from the 5-star Baberrih Hotel with brand new North and Mystic gear — lessons, rental, repair. The name "Baberrih" means "door to the wind" in Berber, which says it all about the conditions.
The atmosphere is the complete opposite of crowded Essaouira bay: here you ride on a near-deserted beach with views of dunes and ocean stretching endlessly. It's the ideal spot for those seeking space, tranquility, and varied conditions (flat + waves) close to Essaouira.

Two different conditions depending on the zone. Ocean side: Atlantic waves 0.5-2m depending on swell and season, sandy bottom, sometimes powerful shore break. Behind the sandbars: shallow flat water, ideal for freestyle and learning. Cool water year-round (17-21°C), 3/2mm wetsuit recommended, 4/3mm in winter.

Open all year round
Free parking at Hotel Baberrih for guests. The hotel is located on the coastal road R301 (km 34, Safi road), 25 minutes drive from Essaouira. Transfer service from Essaouira or the airport is available on request through the hotel or Windgate school.
Atlantic currents present, especially on the ocean side. Stay vigilant during falling tide. The flat water zone behind sandbars is safer but can change with tides. Wind can be very strong in summer (July-August), potentially exceeding 30 knots — adjust kite size accordingly. No rescue available outside of Windgate school operations.
Dominant NE trade winds from April to October, reinforced by thermal effect in the afternoon. Wind typically starts late morning and builds through the afternoon. In summer (June-August), conditions are strongest with regular 15-30+ knots. The beach being very open and exposed, wind arrives without turbulence, cleaner than in Essaouira bay. Rideable almost year-round thanks to consistent trade winds.
