Cap Skirring is the premier seaside resort of Casamance, southern Senegal. With an international airport, several holiday clubs and many hotels and guesthouses, it is the most developed tourist destination in the region.
The beach is magnificent — very wide, lined with coconut palms (shared with zebu cattle!), stretching from the Club Med in the north to Kabrousse in the south. During the trade wind season (December-May), the dominant NE wind is slightly offshore in the morning, turning NW via afternoon thermal to become favourable for kite. 10-25 knots, with Harmattan gusts exceeding 30 knots.
Water temperature very pleasant year-round (shorty wetsuit only in cool season). Superb conditions when the west wind brings waves. The bay-shaped beach provides natural protection.
Base camp for kitesurf safaris in Casamance: excursions by 4x4 and pirogue to wild spots — Pointe de Nikine, Île de Carabane, Diogué, Pointe Saint-Georges, Boudédiète (Guinea-Bissau border).
Season: January to May.
Le Papayer Ecolodge Kitesurf Camp — beachfront eco-lodge with direct beach access, 10 min from Cap Skirring airport. 100% solar/wind powered (Green Globe certified). 4x4 transport to remote spots. No equipment rental — bring your own gear. www.becapkite.com
Alizés Beach Resort — kiters welcome on their private beach with free access to showers, toilets and a complimentary drink. Live webcam available.
