The Weiße Düne is the most powerful wave spot on Norderney — and one of the best wave kite spots in Germany. Located at the far east end of the north coast, a sandbank at 500m generates waves that break in powerful and regular sets. In strong sustained W/NW after several days of swell, the waves are mast-high, comparable to what you find in northern Denmark. Fine sandy beach without groynes — great freedom of navigation. Kiteable zone: between Strandaufgang Nordbad (Meinstrase) and Badefeld Weiße Düne. Marked by stakes in the water. Advanced level. Kite April-October, 10am-1h before sunset.
Access from the east of the island, following the north coast to the Weiße Düne. Parking possible to the east (less busy area). Kite zone marked by stakes — stay between the markings. W/NW best direction. If NW too onshore at the Januskopf, here the angle is slightly different and cross-shore.

W/WNW = side-onshore from the left — perfect waves on the sandbank at 500m. In very strong W (5+ days of NW/W), mast-high waves on the sandbank — white water between the beach and the reef. NW too onshore at the neighboring Januskopf? The Weiße Düne stays cross-shore in these conditions. Best wave kite spot on Norderney.
Very strong swell in sustained W/NW — sometimes mast-high waves on the sandbank at 500m (white water between the sandbank and beach in these conditions). Tidal currents. Advanced level mandatory. Kite only in the marked zone. High tide: waves reach the shore — narrow beach. Wattenmeer Nationalpark: Riffgat authorized April-October only.
