The Pegel is a flat water spot on the Watt side (south of Norderney), directly west of the ferry terminal. Alternative to the Yachthafen when it's dry at low tide — the Fahrrinne (channel) always maintains some water. Freeride conditions flat to light chop depending on wind. Shallow water in the Watt, moderate wind chop (no swell in this zone). Tide-dependent spot: best conditions 3h before to 3h after high tide. The Fahrrinne retains water even at low tide, but currents are then at their most dangerous.
Spot directly west of the ferry terminal. Small sandy cove as access point — flooded at high tide (less easy access). Works best from 3h before to 3h after high tide. At falling tide: strong currents in the channel — get out of the water. Weather-tide monitoring essential.
Intermediate
Works in many directions thanks to the Watt channel configuration. Moderate wind chop only (no swell in the Watt). Chop in the Fahrrinne slightly higher than in the surrounding flat zones. Valid alternative at high tide when Yachthafen is insufficient.
Very strong current in the Fahrrinne (channel) at falling tide — dangerous. The Frisia ferry passes regularly through the channel — it has absolute priority, never approach! Small access cove flooded at high tide. Tide-dependent spot. Wattenmeer Nationalpark: respect all seal/bird protection zones.
