Norderney | Detmold is a kitesurf spot on the south face of Norderney island, on the Wadden Sea side, in the Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer. Flat and shallow water, protected from swell — ideal conditions for learning and freestyle. This Watt-side zone is primarily reserved for the local surf school. Zone reserved for the local kite school. Norderney is accessible by car (unlike other Frisian islands), allowing day trips. NordSBefV regulation: kitesurfing authorized in the Wadden Sea only in designated zones, 3h before to 3h after high tide, from April to October.
Access by Frisia ferry from Norddeich (signposted from Emden). Spot on the Watt side (south of the island), west of the Yachthafen. Zone reserved for the local surf school — inquire before gearing up. Tide-dependent: kiteable 3h before to 3h after high tide only. Flat and shallow water at high tide.
Kite authorized: April to October only, 3h before to 3h after high tide. Zone primarily reserved for the local surf school. Outside these windows: insufficient water (Watt dry at low tide).

Dominant SW wind = best direction for this zone (free wind on the Watt side from the SW). Perfectly flat water at high tide. Caution: strong current at falling tide. Complementary spot to the neighboring Yachthafen.
UNESCO Wadden Sea zone — strict rules. Kite authorized only 3h before to 3h after high tide (April-October). Strong current in the channels at falling tide. Zone reserved for local surf school students. Respect seal and bird protection zones (do not approach).
