Overview

Terrace Bay sits on Lake Superior's north shore between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay. Lake Superior is the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area. The beach faces south with virtually unlimited fetch across the lake.

Small isolated village on the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17). Beach access from the village. Lake Superior offers powerful conditions — significant waves in south winds. For experienced riders. Short season: July to September. Very cold water.

Hazards

EXTREMELY COLD water — 5/4 full wetsuit mandatory even in summer. Lake Superior is unforgiving — ocean-like conditions. Remote location (4h from Thunder Bay). No quick rescue services. Powerful waves in south winds. Rapid hypothermia risk if falling. Self-sufficient experienced riders only.
