Overview

Very popular snowkite spot in the Vercors, located on the vast Val de Lans plateau, between the Françons hamlet and Les Hérauds. The plateau is wide, flat and oriented north/south, offering ideal terrain for beginners and experienced riders alike. When snow cover is sufficient, the colorful kites between Les Françons and Les Hérauds create a spectacular display. The main Françons spot is wide, easily accessible and flat. Nearby, the Piste de l'Aigle (Lans ski resort) offers a slope for slope soaring, more technical and often windier than Les Françons. Lans en Vercors is 25 min from Grenoble via Sassenage. Spot functioning
Spot oriented north/south. Very good in north wind (guaranteed on snowy/showery days). South wind comes in even better than at Autrans but quite gusty. Calm conditions during prolonged anticyclonic weather. When wind is light at Les Françons, the Piste de l'Aigle often offers more wind. Respect groomed cross-country ski tracks.

Parking
Use the parking lot at the spot description sign only. Do not park along the Françons road/lane (cars block traffic). Sensitive spot: respect parking rules to maintain good relations with residents.
Wind specificities
North: main orientation, steady wind guaranteed on snowy/showery days. Frequent calm during anticyclonic conditions. South: comes in well but very gusty and irregular. When wind is light at Les Françons, Piste de l'Aigle (more exposed) often offers better conditions.
Hazards
Respect the designated riding area (spot sensitive regarding neighboring landowners). Respect cross-country skiers. Stream at the bottom of the spot may be hidden under snow. In south wind, very irregular gusts possible.
