The Südstrand (Wadden Sea side) of Juist is the island's flat water spot, located on the south side facing the mainland. Flat and shallow water at high tide — perfect for learning and relaxed freeride. Unique view of the Wadden, the mainland (Norddeich) and the other islands on clear days. Spot entirely tide-dependent: the Watt is dry at low tide, kiteable only 3h before to 3h after high tide. E/SE dominant and best here (free wind from the mainland, water on the Watt side protected). Perfect complement to the Nordstrand which works better in W/NW.

Access on the south side of the island, from the Hafen or walking towards the Watt. Kite zone regulated by NordSBefV: 3h before to 3h after high tide, from April 1 to November 30. Check tide times before gearing up — pointless to come at low tide. Shallow standing-depth flat water in the calm Watt zones at high tide.

E/ESE best — free wind from the mainland, flat and swell-protected Watt water. NE/SE also good. W/NW wind = offshore from this south face (spot unusable). Complementary spot to the Nordstrand: when W/NW blows on the north side of the island, the Südstrand is downwind — and conversely, in E wind the Nordstrand is rougher and the Südstrand is ideal.
Strong current at rising and falling tide in the channels. Kiteable zone only 3h before to 3h after high tide (Südstrand/Watt side) — dry at low tide. Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer: never approach seal and bird protection zones. Conditions can go from flat to rough quickly at end of tide.
