Heiligenhafen is located at the entrance to Kiel Bay, just before Fehmarn. The kite spot is at the Graswarder, the large peninsula east of the town, behind the marina. Large standing area with sandy beach, wide free parking directly at the water's edge. The Steinwarder on the west side is reserved for windsurfers (nice waves in NW from the Great Belt). Clear views of Fehmarn in the distance. Versatile spot: typical Baltic flat water for beginners and freeride. Best sessions outside summer season (fewer swimmers, fewer buoys). Complementary to Fehmarn spots (Gold, Grüner Brink) for NE/E winds.

Follow the B207 to Heiligenhafen, then head towards the Steinwarder. Turn right along the water, then left after ~300m onto a small road between two bodies of water. Parking on the right after ~500m. Kite zone marked to the east — strictly respect the boundaries.

Large free parking at the Steinwarder. Windsurfers park further west.
W/WNW/NW/N: optimal sideshore at the Graswarder (north-facing coast). SW/WSW: also good. NE/E: land wind from Fehmarn / offshore — unusable. S/SE: offshore from the land. In strong NW: waves on the Steinwarder west side for windsurfers. Baltic = no significant tides.
Kiting at the Steinwarder PROHIBITED — official kite zone is at the Graswarder (east side, behind the marina). Remains of an old pontoon installation in the water facing the spot: can damage equipment or cause injury. In high season (July-August), many swimming buoys reduce available space — spot not recommended for beginners during this period. NW wind: waves from the Great Belt on the Steinwarder west side (windsurf only). No tides in the Baltic but wind can create current.
