Rochon Sands is a provincial park on the south shore of Buffalo Lake, one of the largest natural lakes in central Alberta. The park offers sandy beaches and facilities for lake access.
From the south shore, dominant northwest winds arrive as onshore, offering safe conditions. The vast 20 km north-south fetch generates good chop in sustained winds. The provincial park offers camping, parking, and facilities. Season from June to September.
Shallow fresh water. Temperature of 19-22°C in summer. Sandy bottom at the park. Moderate to sustained chop with north winds. Buffalo Lake is vast, waves can develop. Good water body for progression.

Large lake — rapidly changing conditions. Frequent prairie thunderstorms. Motorboats near the park area. Shallow bottom. Swimmers in the beach area — respect markers. Blue-green algae possible in late summer.
