Selinitsa is a spot near Gythio in Laconia, very close to Mavrovouni, on the south coast of the Peloponnese. This south-facing beach shares the same wind characteristics as Mavrovouni — a quintessential south wind spot, channeled through the corridor between Taygetos and the Mani mountains.
Selinitsa offers a wilder, less crowded setting than the main Mavrovouni beach, while benefiting from the same reliable southerly wind conditions.
Works with southerly wind (SSE-SSW). Quieter spot than Mavrovouni. Same season: spring and autumn optimal, summer with thermal breeze. 🐢 Respect Caretta caretta turtle nesting sites.
Open water, waves of 0.5-1.5m in southerly wind. Sand and pebble bottom. Crystal-clear water. Temperature: 21-25°C in summer.

Parking along the Gythio-Areopolis coastal road. Less signposted access than Mavrovouni — follow paths to the beach. Gythio nearby for services.

Same conditions as Mavrovouni: southerly wind (SSE to SSW) channeled between Taygetos and Mani, 12-22 knots. More frequent in spring and autumn. SSE/S thermal breeze in summer afternoons. Northerly wind (katabatic) is offshore — do not sail.
