Overview

Petrie Island Park is a municipal park east of Ottawa on the Ottawa River. The island offers sandy beaches facing north (river) and semi-sheltered water between the island and shore. Two sandy beaches with shallow water.

Municipal park with free parking. Lifeguarded beach in summer (Petrie Island Beach). Easy launch. Accessible spot for east Ottawa riders. Alternative to Britannia Beach for those in the east.

Ottawa River — water between the island and south shore. Freshwater, moderate current. Sandy bottom, gradual depth. Shallow area between the island and shore — ideal for progression. Water 18-22°C in summer.

Ottawa River current — do not drift downstream. Many swimmers in summer on beaches. Boat traffic. Respect marked swimming areas. Water quality sometimes degraded after rain.
