Rathbun Island View Park is a kitesurf spot on Rathbun Lake, a large reservoir in southern Iowa. With its 44 km² surface area, it's Iowa's second-largest lake, offering excellent fetch for kiting. South and northwest winds are most frequent. Island View Park features a boat ramp and basic amenities. Isolated and uncrowded spot. Season from May to October.
Freshwater with variable visibility. Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 26°C in summer. Large lake with excellent fetch. Muddy bottom. Moderate to strong chop in high winds on the long fetch. Variable lake level depending on precipitation. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty in summer.

Frequent violent thunderstorms with lightning — exit water immediately. Large lake: drift possible in strong winds, conditions can deteriorate rapidly. Submerged debris (trees, stumps) in some areas. Fishing boat traffic. Isolation — rescue services distant. Tornadoes possible in season (May-August).
